The possibility of Llanidloes Sports Centre closing as part of a review by Powys County Council is being challenged by the local county councillor.
Glyn Preston, a member of the liberal Democrat led council, has called on the Welsh Govenment to help modernise the centre and school facilities adjoining it.
It comes following an announcement by Powys County Council that it plans to consult on eisure centres and services in 2025. It includes the possibility of some centres closing or being transferred to other operators, including local communities.
Mr Preston said: "Powys County Council have concluded their review of leisure services in the County. In Spring 2025, they will be consulting on a number of changes to leisure services in the county.
"Llanidloes Leisure Centre is well-used, well-integrated with the school, and the case for keeping it open is very strong.
Cllr Glyn Preston says he’ll fight tooth and nail to keep the leisure centre open."
He's calling on the Welsh Government to make funds available to Powys Council to modernise the facility, including Solar PV and better insulation.
