Sixteen youngsters from Newtown have helped raise £1,500 for a town charity by walking Across Wales.

The group took part in the Rotary Club arranged walk last weekend which starts in Machynlleth and ends in Montgomery.

Rekindle is a charity supporting young people with their mental health.

The team of 16 included young people, volunteers, staff and trustees who successfully raised £1,500 in sponsorship.

Service Delivery Manager Jodie Hughes said: “Events such as the Rotary Across Wales Walk allow our charity to raise awareness of what we do, that we are here for any young person struggling with their mental health and to, most importantly, support our mission tackling the stigma surrounding mental health by getting young people talking more about it.

"We are thankful for all of our supporters and those who gave generously to sponsor our team, these donations make it possible for our work to continue.”

Rekindle supports the mental health and well-being of young people aged between 16 and 25 offering free counselling and one-to-one mental health support from their centre in Newtown.

The charity have recently relocated to the much larger premises in Ladywell Centre, which was driven by a rapid increase in demand for services to support young people’s mental health in the local area.

Rekindle are based in the Ladywell Centre in Newtown and are open 9am-5pm Monday to Friday.

If you know of a young person who could benefit from Rekindles support, get in touch by making a referral on the website www.rekindle.org.uk or speak to a member of the team by calling 01686 722222.

You can also support the charity with a donation, get in touch with the centre to set-up a one-off or regular payment.
