Parents urged to use real nappies on children

16/04/2015 @ 04:38

Parents in Newtown are being urged to consider using “real nappies” as part of a campaign taking place next week.

This year during Real Nappy Week, Recycle for Wales and Powys County Council is encouraging parents to make the switch from disposable nappies to ‘real’ cloth nappies on their babies.

Real Nappy Week is an annual event taking place from April 20-26 and aims to show parents how reusable nappies can help them save money as well as reduce waste.

The average baby will need to wear disposable nappies for two and a half years, a cost of £650 to £1,300.

Real nappies on the other hand cost just £200 for the same two and half year period.

The savings really start to escalate when they are reused on subsequent children.

You can use this calculator http://greatbritishnappyhunt.co.uk/calculator.html to work out exactly how much real nappies will save you.

Nigel Brinn, Head of Highways, Transport and Recycling, said: “Powys County Council has launched an incentive to encourage parents who live in Powys to switch to real nappies and offers up to £100 cash back against the purchase of nappies and accessories.”
