The Green Party has announced that they are fielding Richard Chaloner as their Montgomeryshire candidate in the May 7 General Election.
Mr Chaloner, the local party’s Press Officer, is a Montgomeryshire resident who was brought up in the Welsh border region.
When asked for his priorities for Montgomeryshire he said: “Our services, including the NHS, are under threat. Food banks are springing up as local people are left without support.
"We are all becoming more aware of the problems that climate change is causing. Environmental sustainability and social justice strike a chord with ordinary people, who are being battered by cuts and increasing austerity.
" This needs turning around, and as an MP I would fight hard for real change.”
The Green Party last fielded a candidate in Montgomeryshire in the 1997. Following the large increase in Green Party membership and support over the past year, the party is fielding candidates in most Welsh parliamentary constituencies, as well as in England and Scotland.
