"Abuse" will put political candidates off in future

Montgomeryshire's MP, Glyn Davies, has publicly admitted he suffered "abuse" during the General Election campaign that would put future political candidates of all persuasions off standing.

Last night he told his Facebook friends he was writing a news piece about the abuse.

He said while he could handle it, future political candidates might well be put off standing. He also admitted his family was unsettled by it.

"Never seen anything like it before. Has minimal impact on me, but certainly unsettles my family and will put off inexperienced candidates from standing. Shouldn't be like that," he posted.

Mr Davies didn't go into detail, but it has been widely reported nationally about the level of abuse, verbally and via social media, that was targeted at politicians of all parties in the lead up to the General Election.
