Vigil announced for Manchester victims

23/05/2017 @ 04:58

A vigil is to be held outside Newtown Town Hall in memory of the victims and injured in the Manchester Arena tragedy.

Social media posts have been published confirming the vigil at 6pm tonight (Tuesday) and a statement has been issued saying it has been arranged as part of cross party support in the town under the banner "Montgomeryshire in union with the people of Manchester."

"We are meeting together as the people of Montgomeryshire to show that we are in union with the people of Manchester after the tragic events of last night. We are committed to tolerance and respect of each other, and this gathering demonstrates the value we place on supporting each other," said a statement.

A one minute silence will be held at 6pm.

At least 22 people, many young children and teenagers, died in last night's terrorist incident at the arena after an Ariana Grande concert.

The venue is a key destination for many from the north Powys area attending concerts.
