Another lorry strikes railway bridge

28/03/2017 @ 04:42

Another lorry has struck the Dolfor Road railway bridge in Newtown.

The vehicle is one of numerous incidents of lorries attempting to get under the bridge despite road warning signs stating the bridge's height.

In the past there have been calls for illuminated signs such as those used near to Shrewsbury Railway Station where vehicles trip a sensor telling them not to attempt to go under.

An articulated lorry attempted to get under the bridge soon after 1.30pm today.

The road and railway line were closed for a time while recovery vehicles were brought in and Network Rail engineers had to check the bridge structure for any damage.

MyNewtown reader Paul Williams captured on camera the damaged lorry stuck on the bridge.

Motorists were already facing delays with roadworks at either end of Newtown linked to the new bypass, as well as work near to Nantoer Bridge.
