Doris batters the area

23/02/2017 @ 03:21

Storm Doris has left its mark on Newtown and the surrounding communities, with roads closed by fallen trees, power cuts and flooding.

The emergency services have been called out to several incidents in the area and forecasters have maintained an Amber weather warning across the region as storm force winds and heavy rain affects the area.

An Oak tree has fallen in Dolerw Park and other trees have fallen across roads, as well as branches falling being blown into the path of vehicles and on pavements.

Electricity cables have ben cut along with telephone wires in places, causing power cuts.

No injuries have been reported in the Newtown area by the emergency services, although police are urging people to only go outside or travel if necessary due to the risk of flying debris and localised flooding.

The River Severn has burst its banks in places and more flooding is expected as heavy rain flows off the mountains and into the Severn Valley.
