Users of rights of way in the Newtown area and throughout Powys are being urged to take part on a survey to consider priorities for maintaining them over the next 10 years.
The current 10 year Rights of Way Improvement Plan was launched by Powys County Council in 2007 and has to be reviewed and updated by law.
The survey seeks to find out views on the current state of the network, usage, priorities and barriers that stop people from enjoying the countryside. Residents and interested parties can access the survey via the council’s website www.powys.gov.uk/haveyoursay and clicking on the Right of Way page.
A short animation gives people some basic facts around the network and there are links provided from the Have Your Say page for people to find out more about the role of Countryside Services, the Definitive map and the public rights network in terms of using footpaths, bridleways, restricted byways and byways open to all traffic.
Cllr John Powell, Cabinet Member for Countryside Services, said: “The public rights of way network and open access land are a key asset to the Powys economy in terms of attracting tourists and spend in our county. They provide our residents and tourists alike with plenty of opportunities to get out and enjoy our beautiful countryside and boost their health and mental well-being whilst doing so.
“We'd really like to continue to enhance the network but with reducing resources we would value your views on what you feel our priorities should be.”
The closing date for the survey is Tuesday, 31 January, 2017.
