Newtown FC have been cleared to continue playing in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League and in Europe next season.

The club was celebrating once again after being successful in their application for a UEFA and FAW Domestic Licence, awarded at a meeting of the FAW First Instance Licensing Body held in Cardiff today (Thursday).

The Club Licensing system aims to assist the continual improvement and development of football clubs at the top level within Wales. Licensing is a transparent process that enables clubs to demonstrate to their stakeholders that they meet quality standards.

An FAW Domestic Club Licence is required for clubs to participate in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League and for those clubs who qualify for European competitions, a UEFA Licence is also a pre-requisite.

Club Secretary Owen Durbridge said: "It has become routine for us really. It is second nature for us to get the licences, but it doesn't take away the fact that the work that needs to be done at the club to get the licences is still a big amount.

"More things need to be done each year to comply with the FAW and UEFA and I am very pleased we have again got the licence."

Owen also commented that the WPL highly commended Newtown for their 'astute financial judgement.'
