Your Council Tax is to go up by 3.9 per cent from April.
Powys County Councillors agreed the rise today. That comes on top of police and town council increases.
The council approved a cabinet recommendation of a 3.9 per cent increase in Council Tax along with a budget saving package that will reduce the council’s spend by £9.6m.
The increase will see the cost of an average Band D property rise from £1,090.06 to £1,132.57 – equivalent to .82p per week or £42.51 per year.
Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance, Councillor Wynne Jones said: “The budget decision will set the council on firm footing for the future and see us well placed to face what will undoubtedly be another very difficult period in local government.
“Although our funding settlement from Welsh Government this year was better than expected but it was still a 0.5 per cent cut in funding when many others in Wales had an increase. It meant we had to continue with plans to reduce spending by changing the way we deliver services, collaborating with others and in some cases devolving service delivery to others.
“But, we believe we have produced a fair budget, a sensible budget one that protects vital services throughout the county without imposing too high a cost on our residents. The decision does not mean we can pull back from difficult decisions about the way we deliver services in the future, there has to be change particularly in those areas that dominate our spending plans, area such as education and social care.
“This year’s budget and council tax increase will give the council and services time to plan for the future and bring about change in an efficient way,” he added.
