Free parking has been confirmed in Newtown and other Powys County Council long stay car parks in the run up to Christmas.
The main Back Lane and Gravel car parks in Newtown will be free to use on the 12th and 19th December between 10am and 6pm.
Free parking in short stay car parks is only applicable for a maximum of two hours.
The scheme is being funded by the council’s leader not taking his full salary entitlement.
Cabinet Member for Highways, Councillor John Brunt said: “I am pleased to confirm that the council’s free car parking initiative will run for the two key shopping days in the immediate run-up to Christmas.
“The scheme, which I am sure is welcomed by shoppers and businesses alike, will provide free parking on the last two Saturdays before the Christmas.”
The initiative only applies to off-street car parks and does not alter existing on-street parking restrictions.
