Rotary continues work on Treowen estate

A Newtown housing estate is benefiting from the voluntary work of Newtown Rotary Club members and the local Plymouth Brethren.

The two groups combined efforts to clear an overgrown and neglected area, as reported last month by MyNewtown.

The first area to be targeted means its is no longer overgrown and can be used by local residents.

Friends and members of Newtown Rotary Club helped by a rapid relief team from the local Plymouth Brethren got in to action clearing the area after Councillor Joy Jones asked the club for help.

It is one of a number of actions the club has been involved in on the Treowen estate.

Rotary Community Services Chairman, Roger Morgan said: “We are in a period when public funds are stretched.

“Rotary is very happy to help with projects like this. Our hope is that local residents will enjoy making good use of the area.

“Cllr Jones is working closely with them and it is her intention that having kick started this work, residents can now maintain the area in good order.”

Last year the Club cleared and painted a communal playground area and sponsored the setting up of a Rotakids Club at Treowen School.

“Rotakids is the most youthful version of Rotary. In September 2014, District Governor Les Wilson travelled down from Maghull to present the Treowen Club Charter because Rotary looks on this as a really exciting and positive venture,” added Mr Morgan.

“Our newest members in Newtown have been achieving great things since then.”
