The number of unemployed people in Montgomeryshire has dropped again, according to latest statistics.

The National Statistics Office said that in April the number of people claiming Job Seekers Allowance was 491, down from 535 in March and 169 fewer than in April 2014.

The news has been welcomed by Montgomeryshire MP, Glyn Davies.

"The latest figures which show unemployment in Montgomeryshire continuing at historically low levels is good news.

“Many businesses I have visited in recent months are positive about future growth.

"Even more welcome is an increase in the level of earnings, with average pay for employees rising by an average of 2.2% from January to March compared with the same quarter last year.

“As the unemployment level continues to fall in Montgomeryshire, we must continue to build on good transport links and improved broadband and mobile connectivity, ensuring that today's positive trends continue well into the future.

“I will continue to do all I can in supporting the individuals and businesses who are delivering Montgomeryshire’s economic regeneration.”
