A campaign to save one of Montgomeryshire native woodlands has been successful with the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust revealing it is now the proud owner of Dolforwyn Woods near Abermule.
The trust launched a campaign last year to secure the woods after the private owners revealed they wanted to sell the woodland. They gave the trust time to raise the £150,000.
Last year the trust launched a 30 Days to Save Dolforwyn campaign and in January it revealed it had raised nearly £130,000.
Today, it said it had successfully purchased the site.
The woodland is rich in fauna and wildlife, including the dormouse.
Clive Faulkner, Senior Trust Manager, said: “We are so grateful to all the wonderful volunteers and donors for all their generous support. We genuinely couldn’t have done it without you.
"Particular thanks to The Potters Group for their kind and significant contribution”
He added: “This isn’t the end of the work though, it’s the beginning. We now need to make Dolforwyn Woods Nature Reserve the best it can be for people and wildlife.“
The trust said: "Thanks to the successful purchase of the woods the reserve can now continue to be a place of interest and education for all ages to enjoy.
"Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust will hold various activities at the woods throughout the year."
