Rare chance to rent farm

A traditional 182-acre mixed farm on the Shropshire-Powys border is available to let on 21-year farm business tenancy from next spring.

Prospective applicants will be able to view Sidnal Farm, Chirbury, near Montgomery on Thursday, September 10 from 10am to 4pm by prior appointment with Shrewsbury-based agents Halls. The tenancy will begin on March 25, 2016.

The farm, which had been occupied by the Gittins family for 75 years, comprises a delightful, Grade II Listed farmhouse, ranges of modern and traditional farm buildings and 182 acres of level and gently undulating arable and pastureland.

Run as a beef and sheep unit with arable crops grown for feed, the farm occupies a quiet location between the border villages of Chirbury and Churchstoke.

The half-timbered farmhouse, which has a wealth of exposed beams, has two living rooms with inglenook fireplaces, a dining room, cloakroom, kitchen and breakfast room, office, shower room and utility on the ground floor. Upstairs there are three bedrooms and a bathroom.

Outside the lawned garden has a number of mature shrubs and domestic outbuildings include log and general purpose stores.

The farm buildings comprise two traditional barns with loose boxes, two cattle sheds, an implement shed, a three-bay general purpose store, five-bay hay barn, a sheep shed with a six-bay Dutch barn and lean-to, a Boythorpe 60 foot grain silo and a covered silage pit.

The land, which includes 104 acres of permanent pasture and 76 acres of arable rotation, has good roadside access and is classified as Grade III on the Agricultural Land Classification Map.

For the last five years, the land has been subject to an Entry Level Stewardship Scheme, which expires on October 31.
